Our colleagues from\u00a0the Iowa Women’s Archives at the University of Iowa\u00a0just launched a new website that we’re very excited about!<\/p>\n

Migration is Beautiful<\/a>\u00a0was unveiled last week at the 2016 League of United Latin American Citizens<\/a> (LULAC) National Convention in Washington, D.C.\u00a0Researchers can explore the story\u00a0of Latinos in Iowa through an interactive map, individual profiles and a narrative history supported by digitized primary source documents.<\/p>\n

Look under “Topics<\/a>” to read about and explore resources on\u00a0local\u00a0Mexican-American neighborhoods:\u00a0Cook’s Point<\/a>\u00a0in the west end of Davenport, Holy City<\/a>\u00a0in Bettendorf and La Yarda<\/a>\u00a0in Silvis.<\/p>\n

The People<\/a> section has biographical information on Latinas and Latinos in Iowa, including many Quad Citizens. Each profile includes oral history interviews, family photographs and documents\u00a0that have been donated to the Archive and digitized for this project.<\/p>\n

Browse<\/a> through all digital content under the\u00a0Davenport (Iowa) tag to see photos, newspaper clippings and other documents in their collection that relate to this area. You can also browse through other subjects.<\/p>\n

The website developed from their\u00a0Mujeres Latinas Project<\/a>, which has been collecting primary source materials about the history of Latinas and their families in Iowa. University of Iowa Libraries staff and UI\u00a0graduate students\u00a0conducted over 100 oral history interviews and the Archives received donations of letters, memoirs and photographs from people and organizations in the community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
