In 2015, genealogists and researchers\u00a0from all over the country came to use the wonderful resources here at the\u00a0Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center. We also had email and phone requests from all over the world!<\/p>\n
To fill in the branches of their family trees, they\u00a0found copies of\u00a0<\/span>birth, marriage and death records<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>of their Scott County, Iowa ancestors. They came to research\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Iowa Soldiers\u2019 Orphans\u2019 Home<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Colonel George Davenport\u00a0<\/span><\/a>and\u00a0<\/span>Bix Beiderbecke<\/a>. They viewed\u00a0<\/span>newspaper articles\u00a0<\/span><\/a>on microfilm, information in our\u00a0<\/span>online databases<\/a>,\u00a0and images in our\u00a0<\/span>photograph collection<\/a>. Their searches were made easier by the many\u00a0<\/span>indices<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>prepared by our volunteers from the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society.<\/p>\n Last year we had visitors and research requests from 23 U.S. states, Canada and Israel. We had visitors from both Apple Valley, Minnesota and Apple Valley, California, and\u00a0received\u00a0research requests\u00a0from both\u00a0Troy, Missouri and Troy, Michigan!<\/p>\n Our\u00a0furthest visitors came from\u00a0Santa Cruz, California and Mukilteo, Washington; our furthest correspondents wrote from Tel Aviv, Israel, and Aiea, Hawaii.<\/p>\n Check out this map showing all of RSSC’s visitors for the year 2015, as recorded in our Guest Book.
