NARA AAD Passenger Lists FYI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Last month, staff from the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center listened in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/calendar\/genealogy-fair\/2015\/schedule-handouts.html\" target=\"_blank\">National Archives Virtual Genealogy Fair<\/a>.\u00a0One of the things we learned is that NARA&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/aad.archives.gov\/aad\/\" target=\"_blank\">Access to Archival Databases<\/a> has indexed\u00a0passenger lists available to search from home for FREE.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There are currently 4 passenger list databases on AAD:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/aad.archives.gov\/aad\/fielded-search.jsp?dt=2126&amp;cat=GP44&amp;tf=F&amp;bc=,sl\" target=\"_blank\">Russians to America<\/a>\u00a0(1834 &#8211; 1897)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/aad.archives.gov\/aad\/fielded-search.jsp?dt=180&amp;cat=GP44&amp;tf=F&amp;bc=,sl\" target=\"_blank\">Famine Irish Passenger Record<\/a> (1846 &#8211; But that means that the list on AAD is more complete than the books. If you go back to the Passenger Data File and search by the Manifest Identification Number, you will get a list of everyone on the ship,\u00a0including the 4 Americans that are not listed in the book version of Germans to America.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You will have to try any and all alternate spellings\u00a0and abbreviations of your ancestors names, since the AAD\u00a0does not\u00a0use the same kind of &#8220;smart&#8221; searching as Ancestry or other genealogy sites you might be used to searching.
