This month as the Davenport Public Library celebrates The Big Read with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 classic The Great Gatsby<\/em> we are exploring the 1925 Iowa State Census which you may search for free on Family Search<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unlike the Federal Censuses which were only 1 page long, this State Census has\u00a03 pages of information on your ancestors.<\/p>\n

Are you stuck trying to find your ancestor’s mother’s maiden name? If they lived in Iowa in 1925, then you’re in luck! The second page asks for fathers’ name, mother’s maiden name, their age (if still alive) and\u00a0where they got married.<\/p>\n

If you’ve tried the name search and\u00a0your ancestor does not show up in the search results but you are sure that they lived\u00a0in Iowa\u00a0at the time, we suggest you browse\u00a0<\/a>through the digital microfilm. It’s just like browsing through the microfilm here at the Library, but you can do it from home for free!<\/p>\n
