{"id":5338,"date":"2014-04-03T11:52:11","date_gmt":"2014-04-03T16:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/?p=5338"},"modified":"2014-07-31T09:34:07","modified_gmt":"2014-07-31T14:34:07","slug":"first-do-no-harm-then-come-see-the-state-of-scott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/2014\/04\/03\/first-do-no-harm-then-come-see-the-state-of-scott\/","title":{"rendered":"First, Do No Harm \u2013 then come see the State of Scott!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center is pleased to offer two programs on Saturday, April 5<sup>th<\/sup>:<\/p>\n<p><b><i>First Do No Harm: Caring for your Family Documents<\/i><\/b><i> <\/i>\u00a0will be held at the Main Library (321 Main Street) from 9:30 &#8211; 11:30.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Learn how to carefully preserve your documents without breaking the bank at this event celebrating preservation month!\u00a0 \u00a0You will be provided with the supplies to preserve on-site a document no larger than 11&#215;17 to take home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Discover what not to do, how to store your documents and more about caring for paper and photographs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Registration is required, so please contact the library at 563-326-7902.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0We will also be holding a film screening of <b><i>The State of Scott: A View of Davenport in 1948<\/i><\/b> at our Eastern Avenue branch from 2 \u2013 4pm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/genealogy-and-history\/local-history-info\/the-events\/state-of-scott-celebrations\/\" target=\"_blank\">Free and Independent State of Scott<\/a> celebrations were a series of parades, shows,\u00a0 fireworks, beauty contests, and other activities that showcased the resiliency&#8212;and creativity&#8212;of our local post-World War II community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Original raw footage, of these events was put together by the Davenport Public Library and the Open Cities Film Society into a short feature, which includes memories from local newspaperman Bill Wundram.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">No registration is required for this event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>We hope to see you here!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center is pleased to offer two programs on Saturday, April 5th: First Do No Harm: Caring for your Family Documents \u00a0will be held at the Main Library (321 Main Street) from 9:30 &#8211; 11:30.
