Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 9th, when the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society (SCIGS) and the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center present a talk by Ricki King on “Iowa’s Black Pioneers.<\/a>” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

King, a credentialed genealogist and professional researcher specializing in African Americans in Iowa and the Midwest, will introduce us to some of the state’s earliest Black arrivals. No doubt these will include individuals she has identified uncovering Underground Railroad freedom seekers connected with the Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines<\/a> and through her work with the City of Dubuque’s Black Heritage Survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
