They found copies of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qcmemory.org\/genealogy-and-history\/collections\/scott-county-records\/\" target=\"_blank\">birth, marriage and death records<\/a> of their Scott County, Iowa ancestors. They came to do research on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/files\/1013\/2586\/6625\/The_Annie_Wittenmyer_Home.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Iowa Soldiers\u2019 Orphans\u2019 Home<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/genealogy-and-history\/local-history-info\/the-people\/george-davenport\/\" target=\"_blank\">Colonel George Davenport <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/genealogy-and-history\/local-history-info\/the-people\/bix-beiderbecke\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bix Beiderbecke<\/a>. They looked at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/genealogy-and-history\/collections\/newspapers\/\" target=\"_blank\">newspaper articles <\/a>on microfilm, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/research\/online-databases\/\" target=\"_blank\">online databases <\/a>we subscribe to and our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umvphotoarchive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">photograph collection<\/a>. Their searches were made easier by the many <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davenportlibrary.com\/genealogy-and-history\/free-local-databases\/\" target=\"_blank\">indices<\/a> that have been prepared by our volunteers from the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society.<\/p>\n<p>How far did they travel?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our\u00a0farthest Northern visitors\u00a0came from <strong>Stanwood, Washington<\/strong>. That is 2,077 miles or 32 hours away!<\/p>\n<p>From the\u00a0South came visitors from <strong>Grapevine, Texas<\/strong>. That is 953 miles or 14 hours and 50 minutes away!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Atlanta, Georgia<\/strong> is the home of our Easernmost visitors. About 811 miles or\u00a012 hours and\u00a034 minutes away!<\/p>\n<p>From out West, and from\u00a0the furthest distance,\u00a0came patrons from <strong>Redwood City, California<\/strong>.
