
{"id":113,"date":"2008-04-28T19:49:38","date_gmt":"2008-04-29T00:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/?p=113"},"modified":"2014-01-15T15:50:21","modified_gmt":"2014-01-15T21:50:21","slug":"a-flood-of-images","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/2008\/04\/28\/a-flood-of-images\/","title":{"rendered":"A Flood of Images"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of this year&#8217;s flooding (which <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/?p=109\" target=\"_blank\">surprised us<\/a> as much as anyone), we pulled a few of our images of\u00a0Floods Past\u00a0from our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qcmemory.org\/SiteContent\/Documents\/File\/collections\/Photo%20Collections.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Historical Photograph Collections<\/a>\u00a0for your enjoyment:<\/p>\n<h4>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The 1940s:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This photos were taken during the same flood in\u00a0the early 1940s.\u00a0 There were three to choose from: &#8217;43, &#8217;43,\u00a0or &#8217;44.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/aerial-west-dav-flood-1940s.jpg?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"aerial-west-dav-flood-1940s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>High and dry in the sky . . . until we land.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This aerial photo was taken from an airplane above the west end of Davenport.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/leclaire-park-flood-1940s.jpg?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"leclaire-park-flood-1940s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The Mississippi come up to say Hello!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0image\u00a0shows the river slowly creeping over\u00a0the levy into LeClaire Park.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/sc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/credit-island-flood-1940s.jpg?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"credit-island-flood-1940s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Watch out for the water hazard!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Credit Island Gold Course shrank to several holes less than the full 18 as the water rose higher.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1965:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The flood of 1965 was called the &#8220;Flood of the Century&#8221;
