Since 2004, libraries across the world have organized events about freedom and issues that matter to their communities during the month of September. This grassroots project favors free over fee, public over private, and voices over silence. \u00a0\u00a0Throughout\u00a0the week of September 21,\u00a0the blogs of the Davenport Public Library\u00a0will be featuring posts relating to freedom and democracy, as well as hosting displays about these topics.\u00a0 For more information about the September Project, visit www.theseptemberproject.org<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\"\"\u00a0Joan McAdams not only experienced first-hand the
\n\u00a0 continual\u00a0bombing of England in WWII, she\u00a0\u00a0joined
\n\u00a0 the Royal Air Force in order to do something about it.<\/p>\n

\"AmericanWhile serving, she\u00a0met and married an American soldier, and dealt with the difficulties of a military relationship and, later, with being an “English war bride.”\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

After her children were grown, she worked for over 20 years to provide another kind of freedom—at the Rock Island Public Library.<\/span><\/p>\n

A veteran, a foreign bride, a\u00a0mother, and a librarian—if that isn\u2019t the definition of \u201cfreedom fighter,\u201d it should be!<\/span><\/p>\n
