{"id":8292,"date":"2010-09-08T06:00:59","date_gmt":"2010-09-08T12:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=8292"},"modified":"2010-08-30T10:47:43","modified_gmt":"2010-08-30T16:47:43","slug":"i-know-i-am-but-what-are-you-by-samantha-bee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/i-know-i-am-but-what-are-you-by-samantha-bee\/","title":{"rendered":"I Know I Am, But What Are You? by Samantha Bee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/samantha-bee.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/samantha-bee1.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|2262330\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8305\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/samantha-bee2.jpg?resize=150%2C231&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a>Every night before bed, I try to catch the newest episode of <em>The Daily Show with Jon Stewart<\/em>.\u00a0 So I was surprised and excited when I saw that one of my favorite <em>Daily Show<\/em> correspondents, Samantha Bee, had just come out with a book of humorous essays about her life.\u00a0\u00a0 In her new book\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|2262330\" target=\"_blank\">I Know I Am, But What Are You?<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Bee covers everything from\u00a0her upbringing by her Wiccan mother\u00a0to teaching her friends about the birds and the bees using her Barbie dolls to trying to come up with the perfect gift for her husband and failing miserably.\u00a0 I was reading this book on a road trip to Chicago and found myself laughing out loud and sharing\u00a0 passages with my sister and husband, who couldn&#8217;t help but laugh out loud themselves, particularly\u00a0at the passage where she described her son wanting to put the family cat in his mouth in order &#8220;to be kept safe forever in a protective human boy suit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though she stays out of the realm of political humor that she is famous for on <em>The Daily Show<\/em>, Bee has no problem finding hilarious situations in her own life to write about.\u00a0 One of my favorites is her story of how she met her husband, fellow <em>Daily Show<\/em> correspondent Jason Jones:\u00a0 they were both in a traveling stage production of the childrens cartoon <em>Sailor Moon<\/em>, complete with anime-style outfits and a lot of very displeased children in the audience.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to be a fan of <em>The Daily Show<\/em> to enjoy this book;
