{"id":5921,"date":"2010-02-24T06:00:15","date_gmt":"2010-02-24T12:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=5921"},"modified":"2010-02-23T12:58:43","modified_gmt":"2010-02-23T18:58:43","slug":"mascot-mania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/mascot-mania\/","title":{"rendered":"Mascot Mania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.technorati.com\/10\/02\/16\/4745\/Img214204635.jpg?w=1050\" alt=\"Vancouver Olympic Mascots\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s a modern-day Olympics without mascots?<\/p>\n<p>Well, definitely still exciting but perhaps a little less fun.\u00a0 If you were able to watch any of the opening ceremony for the Vancouver Winter Olympics, the emphasis on the traditional &#8220;First Nations&#8221; was obvious.\u00a0 The media and marketing moguls have carried it a bit further by designing some cute, cuddly little mascots inspired by native creatures.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a few to look for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sumi &#8212; (the mascot for the paralympic games) is an animal spirit with the hat of a whale, Thunderbird wings and the furry legs of a black bear.<\/li>\n<li>Quatchi &#8212; a friendly, if rather shy, young sasquatch, who wisely wears boots and earmuffs<\/li>\n<li>Miga &#8212; a mythical sea bear, who&#8217;s part orca and part Kermode bear<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouver2010.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>official website<\/strong><\/a> you and your kids can play games with Quatchi and the other mascots.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know about you, but it&#8217;s probably the closest I&#8217;ll ever get to competing in the Olympics!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What&#8217;s a modern-day Olympics without mascots?
