Did you know that\u00a0Natalie didn&#8217;t\u00a0even exist in the book? The author explains in an NPR interview that\u00a0a &#8220;whole new character had to be introduced. A sort of sidekick had to be given to a lonely hero who spends most of the time in the novel observing and thinking about his world. But now we had to give him a chance to talk about his\u00a0world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another George Clooney vehicle., <a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|2230406\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>The<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Men Who Stare at Goats<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, is\u00a0based on a \u00a0book by Jon Ronson. This\u00a0is\u00a0 even more mind twisting. The viewer wonders how much of the film (which inevitably alters a book) is true\u00a0even though it&#8217;s\u00a0based on a non-fiction work.\u00a0The caption &#8220;More of this is true than you would believe&#8221; precedes the movie which sets up the question, &#8220;which particular <em>parts <\/em>are true?<\/p>\n<p>What follows is the \u00a0depiction of the military&#8217;s\u00a0 experimentation with New Age psychic phenomena.\u00a0 Apparently, the Jeff Bridges character was based on a real officer (Lt. Col. Jim Channon) who led\u00a0a hippie army called the First Earth Batallion (or the New Earth Army in the movie) , according to <a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|44358\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Wired<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>magazine.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t forget Roald Dahl&#8217;s wonderful\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|402921\" target=\"_blank\">Fantastic Mr. Fox<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, starring the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep. There is an insightful\u00a0article about the Wes Anderson\u00a0adaptation\u00a0\u00a0in November\/December&#8217;s \u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|241438\" target=\"_blank\">Film Comment<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but I always want to get back to the library and check out the book that inspired the movie in the first place.
