{"id":48401,"date":"2023-07-19T06:00:49","date_gmt":"2023-07-19T11:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=48401"},"modified":"2023-07-05T13:42:29","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T18:42:29","slug":"little-free-libraries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/little-free-libraries\/","title":{"rendered":"Little Free Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that the library hosts three Little Free Libraries (LFL) around the city?\u00a0 Well, we do!<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the generous donations of our community and the hard work of our FRIENDS organization, materials are made available to distribute through these weather-proof boxes.<\/p>\n<p>I take care of the Duck Creek LFL.\u00a0 I normally stock it weekly, usually on Monday nights.\u00a0 I collect a mix of children\u2019s, teen, and adult items from the library and drive to Duck Creek to fill up the box.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, about one to one-and-a-half feet of books need to be restocked.\u00a0 But on one recent visit, I found that the shelves of the LFL had been decimated.\u00a0 There were less than a dozen books left!\u00a0 Fortunately, I had just enough books in my supply box to fill the library back up.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LFL-Image-Two-rotated.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-48405\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LFL-Image-Two-rotated.jpg?resize=215%2C287&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"287\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After re-stocking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LFL-Image-One-1-rotated.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-48404\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/LFL-Image-One-1-rotated.jpg?resize=216%2C288&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a steward, I\u2019ve stocked \u201cmy\u201d LFL mostly with popular reading choices: \u00a0Grisham, Connelly, Blume, and various other kids\u2019 authors.\u00a0 But, included among these titles there are some personal favorites that stand out in my mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>vintage Little Golden Books.\u00a0 They go like hot cakes!<\/li>\n<li>a 1960\u2019s version of Amelia Bedelia.\u00a0 Oh, Amelia Bedelia, who drew a picture of the drapes when she was asked to close (draw) them.<\/li>\n<li>a pristine board book about colors.<\/li>\n<li>a hardback Richard Bachman title.\u00a0 \u201cBachman&#8221; is the name Stephen King wrote under in the late 70s and early 80s.<\/li>\n<li>dictionaries.\u00a0\u00a0 I simply LOVE giving away reference books!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tragically, some books that catch my eye are simply too unwieldy to be stocked. \u00a0For example, atlases.\u00a0 They are just too large for the shelves.<\/p>\n<p>I encourage you to visit one of our LFLs and browse the current items.\u00a0 You might just find an interesting title.\u00a0\u00a0 If you do, take it.\u00a0 Visit again to see what is on offer the next time.<\/p>\n<p>Our Little Free Library locations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Duck Creek Park (across from the Stampe Lilac Garden)<\/li>\n<li>Sunderbruch Park (at the Telegraph St. entrance)<\/li>\n<li>Fairmount Street Bus Stop (across from the Fairmount Library)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not near one of those?\u00a0 Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/littlefreelibrary.org\/map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Little Free Library World Map<\/a> to discover what Little Free Libraries are near you.<\/p>\n<p>You never know what you\u2019ll find in a Little Free Library!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that the library hosts three Little Free Libraries (LFL) around the city?\u00a0 Well, we do!
