Recently I had the privelege to order <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1439627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Requiem for the Enslaved<\/strong><\/em><\/a> for our classical music section. Here&#8217;s how the creators describe it:<\/p>\n<p>American composer Carlos Simon presents a multi-genre work,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1439627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong><span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">Requiem<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">for<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">the<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">Enslaved<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a>. This work is a musical tribute to commemorate\u00a0<span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">the<\/span>\u00a0stories of 272\u00a0<span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">enslaved<\/span> men, women and children sold in 1838 by Georgetown University. Described as a &#8220;rap opera,&#8221; Carlos infuses his original compositions with African American spirituals and familiar Catholic liturgical melodies.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1439627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Requiem for the Enslaved <\/em><\/strong><\/a>explores the sacred and historical, and honors the lives of those bought and sold.<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Simon says: &#8220;Since being hired as an Assistant Professor, I have grown to love the Georgetown University community and culture. In learning of the university\u2019s involvement in slavery, I am deeply grateful for the collective efforts taken to understand and attempt to reconcile its tainted past.
