This month our inspiration film is the classic, <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1158949\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Maltese Falcon<\/strong><\/em><\/a> starring Humphrey Bogart. For me, the film is nearly incomprehensible &#8211; I still don&#8217;t understand the fuss over the statue &#8211; but it&#8217;s still a great film, with several famous character actors, an incredibly stylish black-and-white film noir feel and Bogart at his charismatic best. So what kind of books does this film inspire?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you can read books by Dashiell Hammett who wrote the <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=4&amp;cn=525176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>book<\/strong> <\/a>our film is based on as well as classics such as <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=3&amp;cn=525372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Thin Man<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=524868\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Red Harvest<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 One of his contemporaries, Raymond Chandler, wrote several outstanding detective novels including <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1138475\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Big Sleep<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1252035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Farewell My Lovely.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Others to consider include James Ellroy (<a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=2&amp;cn=491638\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Black Dahlia<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=3&amp;cn=491873\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>L.A. Newer authors include Patricia Highsmith (<a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=8&amp;cn=534718\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Strangers on a Train<\/strong><\/em><\/a>), Robert B Parker (the Spencer series), Lawrence Block (the Matthew Scudder series) and Mickey Spillane (the Mike Hammer series).<\/p>\n<p>I am planning on reading <a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.7&amp;pos=3&amp;cn=525372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>The Thin Man<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Dashiell Hammett about married private detectives Nick and Nora Charles and their dog Asta. It&#8217;s supposed to have lots of fun. snappy dialogue and has inspired a radio show, a television series, movies and even a Broadway play.<\/p>\n<p>What about you &#8211; what will you be reading in December?
