{"id":37492,"date":"2020-09-11T06:00:26","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T11:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=37492"},"modified":"2020-09-02T08:50:48","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T13:50:48","slug":"home-before-dark-by-riley-sager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/home-before-dark-by-riley-sager\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Before Dark by Riley Sager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.1&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1341939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-37493\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Home-Before-Dark-Sager.jpg?resize=239%2C361&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a>Maggie Holt was too young to remember the terrifying time she spent at Baneberry Hall, the expansive Victorian mansion her parents purchased in rural Vermont nearly 25 years earlier.\u00a0 Maggie, along with her parents Ewan and Jess, lived at Baneberry Hall for only three weeks before sheer terror drove them to flee in the middle of the night.\u00a0 Now nearly 30, Maggie has to face the reality of not only the recent death of her father, but yet again she has to face the skepticism and criticism regarding his best selling book, <em><strong>House of Horrors<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Her father&#8217;s book detailed the paranormal activity and deep secrets of the home&#8217;s history.\u00a0 Author Riley Sager merges the past and present as well as the suspenseful and supernatural in <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.1&amp;pos=1&amp;cn=1341939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Home Before Dark<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>On her father&#8217;s deathbed she learns that she is the new owner of Baneberry Hall.\u00a0 As a restorer of old homes, Maggie&#8217;s goal is to make the needed updates and sell the home as quickly as possible.\u00a0 Upon moving into the house temporarily, Maggie begins to\u00a0 doubt that her father invented many of the stories detailed in <em><strong>House of Horrors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>She begins to meet many of the townspeople portrayed in his book.\u00a0 They have long memories and still harbor mixed emotions toward her family and the book.\u00a0 As odd occurrences begin to spook Maggie, she begins to question everything that she has doubted her entire life &#8211;
