{"id":3227,"date":"2009-05-08T06:00:59","date_gmt":"2009-05-08T12:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=3227"},"modified":"2009-05-02T09:06:30","modified_gmt":"2009-05-02T15:06:30","slug":"remembering-mom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/remembering-mom\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering Mom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|254636\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3229 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/love-you-mom.bmp\" alt=\"love-you-mom\" width=\"110\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>Mother&#8217;s Day is quickly approaching &#8212; May 10th, in fact.\u00a0 No doubt most of you have already planned your brunches and\u00a0 bouquets in celebration of dear old Mom, and those are always appreciated.\u00a0 Still, when I think back over the years, the mother&#8217;s day gifts that I most loved were those which were homemade:\u00a0the cards with crayon pictures, the lilacs picked fresh from the garden, the attempts at breakfast in bed.\u00a0 Still, one thing I never did for my own mom <a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|1027836\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3231 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/s-daughter1.jpg?resize=108%2C148&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"s-daughter1\" width=\"108\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a>(or mother-in-law) was to write a thank you letter.\u00a0 Now that they are both gone, I&#8217;m wishing I had.\u00a0 Wishing that I&#8217;d worried less about fixing\u00a0 a fancy meal with the good china and the white tablecloth in the dining room,\u00a0wishing I&#8217;d spent less time looking for some sentimental card at the Hallmark store, and wishing instead that I had taken a few moments to write down in my own words how I felt.\u00a0 To say thank you, to share a funny story, even, perhaps, to\u00a0tease a little, but just doing\u00a0it would show I cared.<\/p>\n<p>If you think you might like to write your own\u00a0letter to\u00a0Mom, here are some books that might\u00a0 give you some inspiration:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|254636\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>I Love\u00a0You, Mom!
