This month we&#8217;re exploring Seattle in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Home of\u00a0Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks, the Space Needle and lots of rain (although I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s much more to it as well!). It&#8217;s also the setting for some great books and movies so this month&#8217;s Challenge should be a lot of fun too. Some suggestions to get you started:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=236388\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Jamie Ford.Set in <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">the<\/span> ethnic neighborhoods <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">of<\/span> Seattle during World War II <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">and<\/span> Japanese American internment camps <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">of<\/span> <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">the<\/span> era, this novel tells <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">the<\/span> heartwarming story <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">of<\/span> widower Henry Lee, his father, <span class=\"nsm-hit-text\">and<\/span> his first love Keiko Okabe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=281233\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Boneshaker<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Cherie Priest. Steampunk. Zombies. Air-ships. Mad-scientists. All in a toxic and ravaged Civil War era Seattle. Don&#8217;t say we can&#8217;t mix things up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=348659\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Joy for Beginners<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>by Erica Bauermeister.\u00a0Six women gather to celebrate their friend Kate&#8217;s recovery from cancer, where she strikes a bargain with them: to celebrate her new lease on life, she&#8217;ll do the one thing that&#8217;s always terrified her, but if she does, each of them will also do one thing that they&#8217;d find difficult.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=1018583\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Second Watch<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by J.A. Jance (all of the JP Beaumont series is set in Seattle)\u00a0<em>Second Watch<\/em> shows Beaumont taking some time off to get knee replacement surgery, but instead of taking his mind off work, the operation plunges him into one of the most perplexing mysteries he&#8217;s ever faced. His past collides with his present in this complex and thrilling story that explores loss and heartbreak, duty and honor, and, most importantly, the staggering cost of war and the debts we owe those who served in the Vietnam War, and those in uniform today.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d rather watch your Challenge this month (and remember &#8211; that&#8217;s totally allowed!), check out<a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=1192170\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong> 10 Things I Hate About You<\/strong><\/em><\/a> with Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, based (very) loosely on The Taming of the Shrew and is full of sharp and witty dialogue, <a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=1083399\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Sleepless in Seattle<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (of course) with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan or any season of the television series <a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=381237\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Frasier<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, possibly the best tv show ever unless you don&#8217;t like superb comedic acting, clever writing and engaging characters. Also look for <a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=402313\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Say Anything<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, the modern classic love story.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m planning on reading <a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=955913\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Where&#8217;d You Go Bernadette<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Maria Semple which\u00a0has been on my &#8220;to read someday&#8221; list for ages and has been a favorite with our patrons.<\/p>\n<p>What about you?
