\"africa's<\/a>Maria\u00a0Nhambu’s memoir of growing up in\u00a0an\u00a0orphanage\u00a0tucked remotely\u00a0in the Usambara mountains of Tanzania is not for the faint of heart.\u00a0\u00a0She\u00a0is not shy about sharing candid details of what she remembers from her childhood as a\u00a0half-caste girl (a descendant of an African mother and a European father)\u00a0with no parents to claim as her own.<\/p>\n

Though the\u00a0story\u00a0was hard\u00a0for me to read at times, it was also\u00a0impossible for me to put down.\u00a0I found it\u00a0painful\u00a0to read\u00a0about the emotional, physical, and sexual abuses rained down on her and her contemporaries. Yet,\u00a0Nhambu’s indomitable spirit and unwavering focus on her goal of getting an education\u00a0makes hers one of the most\u00a0uplifting books I have read in a long time.<\/p>\n

Though Nhambu now has over seventy years of experience in this world and\u00a0has earned\u00a0every bit of\u00a0wisdom she possesses,\u00a0the child self she shares with her readers was\u00a0one bearing a wisdom way beyond her years.\u00a0Her story reflects\u00a0her\u00a0heart: rare, strong, lovable…compelling.\u00a0Please read\u00a0Nhambu’s memoir and if you feel, like I did,\u00a0that Africa’s Child<\/a><\/strong><\/em> will forever be a part of you then perhaps this world will become a better place to live, one heart at a time.<\/p>\n
