Try Shel Silverstein&#8217;s classic <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|182861 \" target=\"_blank\">A Light in the Attic,<\/a><\/strong><\/em> filled with whimsical, playful, clever (and very funny) word play, or Paul Janecsko&#8217;s <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|966878\" target=\"_blank\">A Kick in the Head<\/a>,<\/strong><\/em> a delightful, laugh-out-loud introduction to poetry forms.\u00a0 Both will have you bouncin&#8217; to the beat!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|585586\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2904 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/spoon-river.jpeg?resize=130%2C130&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"spoon-river\" width=\"130\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And, if you&#8217;ve never read <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|585586\" target=\"_blank\">Spoon River Anthology<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Edgar Lee Masters, what better time than now?\u00a0 Set in a fictional Midwestern village in central Illinois along the Spoon River (which isn&#8217;t all that far from here), it tells the stories of &#8220;the dead sleeping on the hill&#8221; who awaken and tell the truth about their lives.
