If the water reclaimer breaks down, I&#8217;ll die of thirst. If the Hab beaches, I&#8217;ll just kind of implode. If none of those things happen. I&#8217;ll eventually run out of food and starve to death. So yeah.&#8221; &#8211; Mark Watney<\/p>\n<p>And yet, Mark Watney manages to find a way to stay alive. \u00a0And he does so with a sense of humor. \u00a0Even in \u00a0a tense situation, while you are sitting on the edge of your seat, Watney will figure out a way to make you laugh as he himself laughs at danger. \u00a0He makes contact with NASA and finds out that it will take a very long time for them to rescue him. \u00a0The question becomes, will Mark Watney be able to stay alive long enough so that he can be rescued?<\/p>\n<p>Nominated for Best Picture and for Best Actor, Matt Damon. \u00a0The Martian won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture, Comedy or Musical and for Best Actor, Matt Damon, in a Comedy of Musical. \u00a0Do not let the Golden Globe Awards fool you. \u00a0Even though The Martian has funny moments, it is not a comedy.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27093 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/martian-book.jpg?resize=121%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"martian book\" width=\"121\" height=\"200\" \/>The Martian is based on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=1147794\" target=\"_blank\">book <\/a>of the same name by Andy Weir which is also available at the Davenport Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Martian Just looking at the title, one would assume that this movie is just about space, presumably Mars. \u00a0But you would be wrong. \u00a0The Martian is a story of survival that just happens to take place on Mars.
