{"id":25255,"date":"2015-08-07T08:00:52","date_gmt":"2015-08-07T13:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=25255"},"modified":"2015-08-05T14:09:26","modified_gmt":"2015-08-05T19:09:26","slug":"summer-movies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/summer-movies\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Movies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are plenty of movies that take place during the summer time. \u00a0But there are a few movies that stand out as classic summer movies. \u00a0Below are five movies that you can find at the Davenport Public Library. \u00a0Not included in this list are any movies that take place at a camp. \u00a0For help on finding these movies or any other ones, contact the Reference Department.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=764060\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-25259\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/NLVacation.jpg?resize=147%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"NLVacation\" width=\"147\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=764060\" target=\"_blank\">National Lampoon&#8217;s Vacation<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Griswold family decides to go on vacation at Walley World, &#8220;America&#8217;s Favorite Family Fun Park&#8221; which is located in Los Angeles, California. \u00a0Clark, the head of the household, thinks it will be a great idea to drive the family across the country so that they can bond. \u00a0Right away, things start to go poorly. \u00a0Clark orders a new car for the family trip, but the car is not ready. \u00a0So, the family has to take an ugly old station wagon instead. \u00a0And so begins the misadventures of the Griswold family as they travel cross country. \u00a0This comedy stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D&#8217;Angelo, Anthony Michael Hall and Dana Barron. \u00a0This movie was directed by Harold Ramis and was released in 1983.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=59827\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-25257\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Stand-By-Me.jpg?resize=137%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Stand By Me\" width=\"137\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=59827\" target=\"_blank\">Stand By Me<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>This coming of age film is based on a novella by Stephen King. \u00a0In 1959, four friends from the town Castle Rock embark on an adventure to discover the body of a missing local boy. \u00a0During their journey, their secrets and fears are exposed to one another. \u00a0Gordie thinks his parents hate him, Teddy&#8217;s father is crazy, Vern is bullied, and Chris is a kid from a &#8220;no good family&#8221;. \u00a0What started as a fun journey becomes a meaningful exploration of friendship and courage. \u00a0Filled with many memorable scenes, such as the pie eating contest, the leeches and the train bridge, this movie delights fans young and old. \u00a0Directed by Rob Reiner and starring Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O&#8217;Connell and Corey Feldman. This film was released in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=268927\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-25258\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/adventureland.jpg?resize=140%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"adventureland\" width=\"140\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=268927\" target=\"_blank\">Adventureland<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>No, this film does not take place at the Adventureland Park in Altoona, Iowa. \u00a0And the main character, James Brennan (played by Jesse Eisenberg) is not having a &#8220;fun-filled day&#8221;. \u00a0In fact, his life seems bleak to him. \u00a0James had planned to go on the trip of a lifetime to Europe after graduating from college. \u00a0However, his parents are unable to give him the money that they had previously promised him and advise James to get a job. \u00a0James finds work at an amusement park called Adventureland. \u00a0He meets Emily, or Em, played by Kristen Stewart and they start a relationship. But this summer romance has misunderstandings and complications. This comedy-drama was directed by Greg Mottola and was released in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=10527\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-25256\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/dirty-dancing.jpg?resize=134%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"dirty dancing\" width=\"134\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/title.aspx?ctx=14.1033.0.0.3&amp;cn=10527\" target=\"_blank\">Dirty Dancing<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s 1963 and Frances &#8220;Baby&#8221;
