{"id":2465,"date":"2009-03-26T06:00:44","date_gmt":"2009-03-26T12:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=2465"},"modified":"2009-03-23T13:33:53","modified_gmt":"2009-03-23T19:33:53","slug":"frugal-librarian-6-the-latest-dish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/frugal-librarian-6-the-latest-dish\/","title":{"rendered":"Frugal Librarian #6: The Latest Dish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1897\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/frugallibrarian.jpg?resize=138%2C187&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"frugallibrarian\" width=\"138\" height=\"187\" \/>So after a &#8220;mandatory&#8221; $27 expenditure because it was insisted I MUST eat the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.giordanos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Giordano&#8217;s<\/a> stuffed pizza pie, I&#8217;m convinced a reasonable knockoff could be fabricated for less money.<\/p>\n<p>Step 1 &#8211;<em> Go to the Salvation Army thrift store and get a breadmaker for a couple bucks<\/em>.\u00a0 I&#8217;m embarassed of this one.\u00a0 I went there in search of a popcorn popper for my last blog entry, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=2235\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Magic Beans&#8221;<\/a> Turns out there is a lot of usable stuff there for about zero money.\u00a0 Lots of ice cream makers too.\u00a0 Let other people pay full price on newfangled appliances to experiment and you march in there as a lark and snatch them up for two bits.\u00a0 The dough making alternative is a kitchen mixer with dough hook attachment whose purchase or space usage I cannot justify.\u00a0 Also, there are people just giving them away as yesterday&#8217;s fad.<\/p>\n<p>WARNING: You have to make a conscientious effort to NOT buy anything else at the thrift store, lest you become some kind of disgusting packrat.<\/p>\n<p>Step 2- <em>The doughball.<\/em> After running your few shillings&#8217; worth of flour, yeast, etc through the &#8220;dough cycle&#8221; on the bread maker, punch it down in a cake pan.\u00a0\u00a0 A quick google search yielded found me this crust <a href=\"http:\/\/southernfood.about.com\/od\/breadmachine\/r\/r90122f.htm\" target=\"_blank\">recipe<\/a>.\u00a0 Cake pan can also be purchased for a few cents at the thrift store.<\/p>\n<p>Step 3-<em>Layer in whatever ingredients<\/em> you wish and bake for 30 minutes at 375.\u00a0 The classic recipes tend to suggest mozzerella, sauce, and spinach.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure pepperoni slices, mushrooms and browned sausage will work.<br \/>\nHint:\u00a0 a tube of Bob Evans is less greasy than the ground stuff at your grocery store&#8217;s butcher counter<\/p>\n<p>Step 4- Eat this monster every meal for the next few days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So after a &#8220;mandatory&#8221; $27 expenditure because it was insisted I MUST eat the Giordano&#8217;s stuffed pizza pie, I&#8217;m convinced a reasonable knockoff could be fabricated for less money.
