This is the classic library movie. It’s the story of Marian Paroo, the librarian of River City, Iowa and con artist Harold Hill.<\/p>\n

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

In the spirit of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Noah Wyle is a scholar\/librarian turned action hero. Finally, someone tells the story of what librarianship is really<\/em> like.<\/p>\n

Books<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Mummy<\/em> by Max Allan Collins<\/p>\n

Muscatine author Collins wrote the novelization of the movie,which features an accident-prone librarian and an adventurous archaeologist. Together they attempt to solve the mystery of the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead.<\/p>\n

The Librarian<\/em><\/a> by Larry Beinhart<\/p>\n

A political thriller about a presidential election and starring, incredibly, a librarian.<\/p>\n

Possession<\/a> <\/em>by A.S. Byatt<\/p>\n

Many of the key scenes take place in London libraries, where two young scholars try to solve a mystery about the romance of two Victorian poets.<\/p>\n

Instant Karm<\/em>a<\/a> by Mark Swartz<\/p>\n

One of the stranger novels about libraries, this one features Chicago’s public library and a young man who spends each day there. His obsession with the library and it’s books takes a frightening turn.<\/p>\n

The Giant’s House<\/em><\/a> by Elizabeth McCracken<\/p>\n

A young librarian champions a patron who suffers from giantism. They are united in their love of books and sense of being outsiders. McCracken also has Iowa ties – she went to the University of Iowa and one of her books, set partially in Iowa, Niagara Falls All Over Again<\/em>, was an All Iowa Reads selection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
