Campbell to bring to life Flora Belle Buckman, a natural-born cynic in the body of a tween girl. \u00a0Armed with an extensive vocabulary, an abundance of comic book knowledge, and an eye for the truth, Flora makes for a wonderful heroine.<\/p>\n<p>But she wouldn&#8217;t see herself as the hero of this tale. \u00a0The hero (I mean, superhero) is Ulysses, a squirrel who acquires the abilities to write poetry and fly after being sucked up by Flora&#8217;s neighbor Tootie Tickman&#8217;s \u00a0Ulysses Super-Suction, Mult-Terrain 2000X vacuum. \u00a0The story that follows includes a terrifying cat, temporary blindness, a shepherdess lamp, an unexpected villain, a giant doughnut, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>While this comic book\/chapter book hybrid is funny and silly, it is also very sweet. \u00a0The examination of changing mother-daughter dynamics as girls grow up is so beautifully executed and subtle that readers may not notice it until they&#8217;ve finished reading. \u00a0<em><strong>Flora and Ulysses<\/strong><\/em> is a great read for loyal readers of Kate DiCamillo and fans of <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/searchresults.aspx?ctx=16.1033.0.0.3&amp;type=Keyword&amp;term=liar%20and%20spy%20rebecca%20stead&amp;by=KW&amp;sort=RELEVANCE&amp;limit=TOM=*&amp;query=&amp;page=0\" target=\"_blank\">Liar and Spy<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Rebecca Stead and <a href=\"http:\/\/rivershare.polarislibrary.com\/search\/searchresults.aspx?ctx=16.1033.0.0.3&amp;type=Keyword&amp;term=Fortunately,%20the%20Milk%20neil%20gaiman&amp;by=KW&amp;sort=RELEVANCE&amp;limit=TOM=*&amp;query=&amp;page=0\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Fortunately, the Milk<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>by Neil Gaiman (or, really, anyone!)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holy Bagumba!
