Martin&#8217;s <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|2060878\" target=\"_blank\">A Dance With Dragons<\/a><\/strong><\/em> was finally released earlier this month.\u00a0 Knowing the pace at which Mr. Martin tends to write, we&#8217;re in for a long wait until the sixth installment in this epic fantasy series is published.\u00a0 While you&#8217;re waiting, here are some other\u00a0series you might be interested in:<\/p>\n<p>Robert Jordan&#8217;s <em>Wheel of Time<\/em> is the first series that is always suggested to me when I&#8217;m looking for <em>A Song of Ice and Fire<\/em> read-alikes.\u00a0 Starting with the first book, called <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|527092\" target=\"_blank\">The Eye of the World<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, the story involves magic, an epic quest, battles, and adventure.<\/p>\n<p>Robin Hobb&#8217;s <em>Farseer Trilogy<\/em>, starting with <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|502475\" target=\"_blank\">Assassin&#8217;s Apprentice<\/a><\/strong><\/em>,<strong> <\/strong>is a medieval political saga much like <em>A Song of Ice and Fire<\/em>, and it even includes an illegitimate son character a la Jon Snow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|527092\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12601\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/eyeoftheworld.jpg?resize=181%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"181\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/eyeoftheworld.jpg?resize=181%2C300&amp;ssl=1 181w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/eyeoftheworld.jpg?w=303&amp;ssl=1 303w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 181px) 100vw, 181px\" \/><\/a>Gregory Keyes&#8217; new series, <em>Kingdom of Thorn and Bone<\/em>, starts with <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|537181\" target=\"_blank\">The Briar King<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Like <em>A Song of Ice and Fire<\/em>, it also has multiple character viewpoints and\u00a0struggles for the throne.<\/p>\n<p>And if you&#8217;re up for something a little less gritty but still tells an epic fantasy tale with fantastic world building, J. R. R. Tolkien&#8217;s <em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> series is always enjoyable no matter how many times you&#8217;ve read it.\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve never read them before, start with <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|751109\" target=\"_blank\">The Fellowship of the Ring<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, then <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|751373\" target=\"_blank\">The Two Towers<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (my personal favorite), and finally <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|751285\" target=\"_blank\">The Return of the King<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s next on my re-read list!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a six year wait, George R.R.
