{"id":12351,"date":"2011-07-12T06:00:20","date_gmt":"2011-07-12T12:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs2.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/?p=12351"},"modified":"2011-07-01T08:50:57","modified_gmt":"2011-07-01T14:50:57","slug":"gramma-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/gramma-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Gramma School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|2134870\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12370\" title=\"martha sorry 3\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/martha-sorry-31.jpg?resize=225%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/martha-sorry-31.jpg?w=225&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.davenportlibrary.com\/reference\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/martha-sorry-31.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m going back to &#8220;Gramma&#8221; School.\u00a0 Yup, this month we were blessed with a new grandson, so I&#8217;m looking forward to spending some time with the little guy and his big sister.\u00a0 Being a grandmother really is one of the best things in life!<\/p>\n<p>However, I&#8217;ve discovered (surprise, surprise) that a few things have changed over the last 30 years, so it seems that one must approach this &#8220;parenting-that- is-grand&#8221; phase with a life-long learning approach.\u00a0 One aspect that is usually different &#8211; though not always &#8211; is that grandparents have more time.\u00a0 For me, this rings especially true with reading.\u00a0 As a former teacher, I knew the &#8220;read-it-again&#8221; rule about re-reading books that kids like, because they learn from the repitition.\u00a0 With my own children, I probably managed 3 or 4 read-it-agains in one sitting.\u00a0 But as a grandparent, I&#8217;ve read and re-read certain books 8 or 9 times &#8212; or at least so many times that I was certain we had <em>both <\/em>memorized it and that I was going to go insane if I read it again.\u00a0 (I copped out and suggested that maybe <em>Grandpa<\/em> could read it again after bathtime.)<\/p>\n<p>Oh &#8212; you want to know what that book was?\u00a0 Well, it&#8217;s<em><strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|2134870\" target=\"_blank\">Martha Doesn&#8217;t Say Sorry<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Samatha Berger.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a delightful little picture book with lots of pink coloring, though I could never figure out if Martha was a seal or a weasel or what kind of animal she was, other than a cute one.\u00a0 And why did my precious, perfectly behaved granddaughter want to read that particular book so many times?\u00a0 I&#8217;ll never know.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t ask.\u00a0 Oh, yeah, that&#8217;s just one of the other little rules I&#8217;ve learned in Gramma School.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m going back to &#8220;Gramma&#8221; School.\u00a0 Yup, this month we were blessed with a new grandson, so I&#8217;m looking forward to spending some time with the little guy and his big sister.\u00a0 Being a grandmother really is one of the best things in life!
