It has\u00a0been in\u00a0steady use ever since &#8211; for forms, envelopes and for those who\u00a0 apparently just\u00a0like to type!<\/p>\n<p>Library formats\u00a0 and databases have come and gone;\u00a0 but the little-typewriter-that-could remains in the corner of the Main library&#8217;s first floor.<\/p>\n<p>A <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.prairiecat.info\/?itemid=|library\/marc\/PALS-unicorn|34803\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a><\/strong><\/em> article, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/31\/fashion\/31Typewriter.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>&#8220;Click, Clack, Ding! Sigh&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/a> describes a movement of typewriter enthusiasts who &#8220;appreciate tangibility, the object-ness of things.&#8221; Advantages include the timelessness of the machine, &#8220;unlike laptops and smartphones, which become obsolete the moment they hit the market.&#8221;\u00a0In contrast to these delicate devices,&#8221; old \u00a0typewriters are built like battleships &#8221; and are easy to repair.<\/p>\n<p>They also serve to focus a writer on writing; there&#8217;s only one thing you can do on a typewriter.\u00a0You can&#8217;t\u00a0have\u00a0several windows open &#8211;\u00a0multitasking on Facebook, email and Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>So, bring the kids and grandkids by the Main library to see an actual, working typewriter.
