In honor of YALSA’s Teen Tech Week, the Scott County Libraries Together – Teen Service Division is hosting the 5th Annual Teen YouTube Video Contest!
Entries due Saturday, February 25th by 5:30 p.m.
Have you ever wanted to make movies? Well now is your chance. We will be having a YouTube contest for area teens. This year we have decided to let you or your team choose your own theme. Below is a list of suggestions, but feel free to make the movie you want to make!
* Live action video games, such as a reenactment of an epic Minecraft session.
* Infomercials for your favorite book, library program, or fictional product.
* A flashmob.
* Incorporate Skype or twitter interview with your favorite author.
* Reinterpret classic literature with a healthy dose of teen angst.
Videos need to be shorter than 5 minutes, and be posted to YouTube. You can then email your entry’s URL and your contact information to the Young Adult Librarian at your home library or to email@example.com.
The YouTube Contest Viewing Premiere will take place on a date and location TBD in March. Stay tuned to the blog for further details.

The 2nd Annual Libraries Together Teen Film Festival & Red Carpet Screening Event at the Putnam Museum & IMAX® Theatre is March 26!
That’s this Thursday!!
At 6 pm, the pre-party for the teen filmmakers and their guests will begin, complete with free pizza and refreshments. Then at 7pm, the FREE Red Carpet Premiere begins! The premiere is open to the public. So bring your friends, walk the red carpet, and join us in viewing the creative works of area teens as their films are projected onto the biggest screen in town! Plus, the IMAX concession stands will be open to suit your snacking needs. Hope to see you there!
The contest began in February, with a call for entries. Teens could choose from three themes, as related to their favorite book: outtakes, book trailer, or missing/unwritten scene. The libraries offered numerous opportunities for teens to use library technology to create their masterpieces. The workshops, training sessions, and events leading up to the red carpet event were created to celebrate “Teen Tech Week,” (March 8 – 14), a national initiative to encourage teens to learn technology and use it responsibly.
Call 563-326-7893 for further info.
