Grand Prize Winners

March 31, 2009

So, in case you haven’t seen the Grand Prize winning films here they are:

What’s Up Holmes? by Gavin Wright and Austin Bundy won the Viewer’s Choice Award and Best Comedy.  It’s hilarious AND has awesome effects.  Pac-Man.  Pac-Man.  And the next one here, Lots of Character by Shelby Bargren, won the Librarian’s Choice Award along with Best Original Film.  Please note:  the original song she chose is being blocked by YouTube, but played perfectly at the IMAX screening.  You should’ve been there! :)  You can still see all the hard work she put in and relish in the film’s keen artistic qualities.  Enjoy!

pre-party interviews with filmmakersred carpet interview

Above are the cast and crew of A Movie of Coolness.  They’re shown being interviewed as they enter the Putnam Museum & IMAX Theatre, and then as they walk the red carpet just prior to making their silver screen debut.  The group went home with their very own Oscar-like trophy we like to call the “Dewey” for Best Soundtrack.  Way to go!  Their movie certainly was cool!

voting for viewer's choice award

Here’s an action shot of the audience members voting for the Grand Prize Viewer’s Choice Award just after the screening on the balcony of the IMAX.  The winner ending up being What’s Up Holmes? by Gavin Wright & Austin Bundy.  The pair took home a Dewey and $100 for that award, plus they also won Best Comedy.  This was the second year the pair of Davenport teens won the Viewer’s Choice Award.  Once again, amazing work guys!!

winner of librarian's choice and best original film

Pictured here, holding the two Deweys she was awarded, is the talented Shelby Bargren of Moline.  Shelby won for Best Original Film and also the only other Grand Prize-Librarian’s Choice Award which also garnered her $100!  We were all very, very impressed with Shelby’s work and creativity.  Rumor has it she can’t wait ’til next year’s film fest rolls around.  Well, we can’t wait to see what Shelby and the rest of the teen filmmakers can come up with to top this year’s entries!  ‘Til then…

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Libraries Together 2nd Annual Teen Film Fest.  Thank you all for giving it a try and working so very hard.  We hope you all had a great time!

Libraries TogetherThe contest began in February, with a call for entries. Teens could choose from three themes, as related to their favorite book: outtakes, book trailer, or missing/unwritten scene. The libraries offered numerous opportunities for teens to use library technology to create their masterpieces. The workshops, training sessions, and events leading up to the red carpet event were created to celebrate “Teen Tech Week,” (March 8 – 14), a national initiative to encourage teens to learn technology and use it responsibly.

Another 2008 Teen Film Fest Video Created by DPL’s Finest

February 19, 2009

Here’s one more video from the 2008 Teen Film Fest.  This gem was created by the Fairmount St. Library’s student pages!  Yay!  It’s full of good laughs and great music.  We sure do hope that they’ll make another video for this year’s film fest.  In fact, I’d like to propose a friendly little video challenge:  Fairmount St. student pages vs. Main St. student pages…and maybe a lifetime supply of Jolly Ranchers to the winners?!?
