Tomorrow night is Teen Volunteer Council at the Fairmount St. Library from 5:30-7:30. The council didn’t meet last month due to the awesome Anti-Valentine’s Day party we had, sooooooo we have some catching up to do.
We also have a little surprise for our volunteers. Want a hint? It’s time to practice your victory dance…
Join us tomorrow night at the Fairmount St. library for the next Teen Volunteer Council meeting. We have lots of upcoming volunteer opportunities to tell you about and some important programming decisions to discuss. We want your input! The fun begins at 5:30.
Also, Wednesday’s ‘Get Your Game On’ program will be canceled. What?! The libraries will be CLOSED for staff in-service that day so there will be no gaming. The program will pick back up the next Wednesday–same time, same place–Fairmount St. Library from 3-5.
You know what this means don’t you??? You should come to the Teen Volunteer Council meeting tomorrow night to try and talk me into getting the video game systems out, just to see what happens…
The Teen Reading Challenge results are in:
Highest total minutes read: Team Rock Island
Highest average minutes read: Team LeClaire
Special Accomplishment Award: Team Scott County (They had 80 participants! 80!)
Congrats to all the teens across the QC-Area who participated in this year’s Teen Reading Challenge. It’s always awesome to see so many teens supporting their libraries and read, read, reading. DPL tried really, really hard this year to go for the big win but we just didn’t quite make it. Perhaps next year will be our year!
The good news for us is that we get to eat all the leftovers from the final party at tonight’s Teen Volunteer Council meeting. Teen volunteers are powered by ice cream and sprinkles right?!
TVC meets tonight from 5:30-7:30 at the Fairmount Branch.
The first Teen Volunteer Council Meeting of 2011 is tomorrow night.
Wait. Would that be 1/11/11??? Ooooh, we’re going to have to celebrate.
The party, ahem, I mean MEETING starts at 5:30 at the Fairmount St. Library. Show up. Lend a hand. TVC needs you! Plus, I heard a rumor that volunteering looks good on resumes and college applications.
I also heard a rumor that the aforementioned rumor is true…
The last Teen Volunteer Council Meeting of the season is tomorrow night! We hope you can make it to the Fairmount St. Library from 5:30-7:30 for all the fun. This meeting will be a good mix of volunteer opportunities, teen program input, suggestions for the collection, and OF COURSE some friendly Apples to Apples. Do you know which Apples to Apples card trumps all at our programs? heehee Stop by and find out.
And just so you know, the Teen Volunteer Council meetings will start back up again in September. See you tomorrow!
ps–Oh my goodness…I just realized we haven’t posted in weeks. Huh. Guess we’ll call that a vacation…wheeeeeeee!
Are you bored?
Yeah, that’s what I thought.
You should come to the Teen Volunteer Council meeting on Tuesday night at the Fairmount St. Library. It starts at 5:30, so call a friend and make plans now. I guarantee you will have a good time. Guarantee it. How can I guarantee such a thing? Well, for starters we’re not going to play RockPaperScissors.
But, we are going to play NinjaPirateGorilla.
And if you’re trying to talk your parents into letting you attend tell them this: The Library’s Teen Volunteer Council is composed of students in grades six through twelve, who help support the Library through fund-raising, programming, and special events. Participation on the Teen Volunteer Council encourages young adults to become involved in planning library activities of interest to them and to inspire an interest in reading for all area youth. Through involvement with the Council, you will gain valuable experiences that will be useful to you now and in the future. Plus, being a member of the Davenport Public Library’s Teen Volunteer Council looks great on resumes and college applications.
And I don’t wanna forget to mention this tidbit…We also play video games after the casual council meeting! Uh-huh.
