Ah, ’tis the end of our SRP wrap up. The last program we have to feature from this summer’s excitement is Xtreme Balloon Sculpting. This program was actually surprisingly more fun than one might expect. Each participant learned how to make a balloon sword and a balloon dog. Then pretty much everyone just had balloon sword fights. Don’t worry, none of the balloon dogs were harmed.
Unfortunately, we were all so busy tying balloon knots and twisting out creations we only managed to take a few pics.
Stay tuned to next week’s posts as we’ll begin to feature the upcoming regular teen programs as well as special events like Inside Outloud (an open mic poetry slam during Banned Books Week) and the 2nd Annual Anime Fest (to be held at the Figge Art Museum)…oh yeah.
This is the second summer for our teen “Duct Tape Creations” program. I gotta say it’s my favorite teen craft program, by far. Just look at the results we had this year:
It’s super easy to make things out of duct tape. Super fun, too. And once you get going it can be really addictive. If you’re not careful you might even end up with a whole new wardrobe. Give it a try at home. But first, place a hold on these titles to help get you on your way…Ductigami…Got Tape? They’re full of great ideas and tips for the duct tape creator in you.
Back in July we decided to host a recycled CD craft program. We let the teens go wild with our crafting supplies and couldn’t wait to see how they transformed the CDs into cool new creations. The results were pretty sweet. I totally heart the disco ball.
Another popular teen program we held this summer was Flip Flop Makeovers. Check out the results…
In the above pic, the teen tied tiny water balloons to the sandals in order to spruce them up a bit. Very cool and perfect for time spent poolside.
Here a patron used water balloons, ribbon, and fur to add style to ordinary orange flip flops. Nice.
Lastly, several teens embellished their summer footwear with glittery jewels. Looks especially good with the sparkly blue nail polish.
We’re probably going to have to host this program again next summer. It was a sure hit. There were even a few boys who attended the program and made cool sandals by coloring on them with metallic markers and gluing pop tabs on the straps. They ended up being really neat, but the guys had really dirty feet so we opted out of exposing you to those pics You can thank us later.
Now that the Teen Summer Reading Program has come to a close it’s time to highlight the variety of teen events we offered this season. First up is a clip of the performance by Bella Rocks which happened at the Summer Reading Kickoff Party in June. It was a real treat for many devoted Twilight fans…
Join us today at 3:00 at the Fairmount Library for some lessons on balloon sculpting. We’ll start out easy with instructions on how to craft the basics–dog, giraffe, and sword. Then we’ll finish things up with a giant collaborative balloon sculpture. Wowzers. Sounds like fun to me. Hope to see ya then!
