No more teen craft programs. The Summer Reading Program ends on Saturday. Grump. Sigh. How do we deal with this?
There’s only one way: BEACH PARTY!
What better way to end the summer than with a friendly hula hoop contest, followed by a few rounds of musical beach towels, maybe a water balloon toss, a little beachball volleyball, and even some ice cream with sprinkles on top?
Can’t think of a better way.
So, your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to show up at the Fairmount Library at 3:00 tomorrow in your tie-dyed t-shirt (that you made at the library this summer), carrying your duct tape beach bag (that you made at the library this summer) with a picture of your balloon animal (that you made at the library this summer) in the seashell/button encrusted photo frame (that you made at the library this summer), with your stylin’ flip-flops on (that you made at the library this summer). Oh, and bring a friend and make them wear the bleach pen decorated t-shirt (that you made at the library this summer). Do it. If you choose to accept this mission you will be rewarded lavishly. Plus, you will make our day, probably our summer, and quite possibly even our year. Forilla. Do it!

What are you doing tomorrow afternoon?
Well, we are balloon sculpting at Fairmount from 3-5.
Probably making things like this:

Probably not making things like this:

But we can if you want. YES! It will be really easy to talk us into it.

That’s right! We are smack dab in the middle of the Summer Reading Program. One month down, one month to go. If you haven’t signed up, now is the time to do so. You can certainly start now and finish by the time July 31st rolls around. Visit either DPL location, or even our brand new 3rd location on Eastern Ave.–which opens July 10th, to sign up and grab a reading log. It’s really that simple. Click here for the rest of the details.
So sign up! And remember to claim your finishing prizes at the information desks when you’re done. Those prizes are going fast! Can’t wait to see who wins the Grand Prizes, too.

Make cool drinking glasses by trying a little glass etching. Really? Yes! Etch glasses and jars with characters and designs from your favorite books, video games, movies, and bands.

Never done anything like this before? Well, neither have we. It’s a brand new craft for us and we’re super stoked about it. We’ll walk you through all the steps and send you on your way with an AWESOME one of a kind creation!

All this is happening at Fairmount tomorrow afternoon from 3-5. See you then? Yes. Oh, and as always, it’s free and supplies will be provided.

Do you love to doodle? Do you like to tie dye? Are you just completely bored even though you’re only 3 weeks in to your summer vacation?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions we’d like to see you tomorrow for the Teen Craft Tuesday Bleach Party! Get this: We’re using bleach pens to “undye” our favorite doodles and designs on tank tops. Yep! It’s totally like tie dyeing in reverse. And get this, too: It’s free and all supplies will be provided.
We did this program last year and it’s very much worth repeating. So, that’s why we’re repeating it! Tomorrow. Three o’clock. Fairmount Library. Bleach Party.
(One tank top per each teen will be provided. If you have other attire you want to attack with the bleach pens bring it in!)
