sooo remember how SUPER excited I am that Harry and the Potters will be playing at 2 pm for the Eastern Branch Library Grand Opening on July 10, 2010? Well that performance won’t be the DeGeorge Brothers’ first visit to the QCA–nope, they popped into the Horseshack Studio for a Daytrotter session back in 2006!

Harry and the Potter Daytrotter SessionDon’t know what Daytrotter is? It is a crazy-heroic website where you can read interviews, see cool illustrated portraits, and download lots of great live recordings for free! Basically some cool people got together and set up a studio in Rock Island where Musicians could stop at for a few hours while touring and record whatever. neato.

Check out the Harry and the Potter session HERE!

IMake Waves at Your Libraryf you haven’t already signed up for the Teen Summer Reading Program now’s the time to do so!  The program is really easy to do and runs for the months of June and July.  This year’s theme is Make Waves @ Your Library.  In keeping with the theme we’ve come up with a bunch of great summer programs and events, all of which we will highlight over the next two days.

First, we want to tell you all about the Teen Summer Reading Program:

So what is it?  Every summer we encourage teens to keep track of what they read in a summer reading log and then we give out prizes when they’re done.  Simple enough right?!

How do you sign up?  In order to sign up visit the Young Adult section at either DPL location, sign your name/email/school in the sign-up book, grab a log, and you’re set.

What do you have to do?  Once you’ve signed up and you have your log, you just keep track of the number of pages that you read–you get one point per every page read.  We also like to give the teens options so you can earn points in other ways, too–like attending library programs and/or volunteering.  All the details are laid out in the log and you can always ask if you have questions.

What do you get out of it?  When you reach 1,000 points you’re finished!  Don’t forget to turn your log in to claim your finishing prize.  This year we’re handing out free books.  Brand new copies of some of the hottest titles out there.  Serious.  Don’t miss your chance to get one.

Anything else?  Yeah, then you can enter into the drawings for the Grand Prizes!!  We’ve got lots of ‘em to choose from so it might be a tough call.

Make some waves at your library…  Sign up today!

Harry and the Potters
Harry and the Potters, the biggest wizard rock band on the PLANET, will be playing at the new Eastern Branch Library for the Grand Opening Party!!! For those of you who are wizard rock fans, I’m sure you just choked on your butterbeer. But some of you may be all “Wizard Rock Wha Who Huh?!?” No worries–we’ve got several weeks to introduce you to the worldwide phenomenon of music based on the world of Harry Potter and turn you into a superfan. Here are three good starters:

1. Here is the teaser trailer for the Wizard Rockumentary (so obviously it gives lots of fun info about Wizard Rock!)

2. MTV NEWS VIDEO: MTV did a news segment on Wizard rock in the summer of 2007 that does a good job showcasing many of the wrock groups, including Harry and the Potters. Sadly, MTV won’t let me embed this video anymore but you can still see it on their site!

3. Read the awesome book Harry, A History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon by Melissa Anelli. It has a whole awesome chapter on Wizard Rock.

Yea! Yea! Yea! Okay, question: is this nerdy-cool or cool-nerdy? or even something more complicated like geeky-nouveau-punk-magic?

Anyway, so text all your friends about the JULY 10th HARRY AND THE POTTERS show and keep watching this blog as we continue to freak out about how neato this is.
