The Teen Reading Challenge results are in:

Highest total minutes read:  Team Rock Island

Highest average minutes read:  Team LeClaire

Special Accomplishment Award:  Team Scott County (They had 80 participants!  80!)

Congrats to all the teens across the QC-Area who participated in this year’s Teen Reading Challenge.  It’s always awesome to see so many teens supporting their libraries and read, read, reading.  DPL tried really, really hard this year to go for the big win but we just didn’t quite make it.  Perhaps next year will be our year!

The good news for us is that we get to eat all the leftovers from the final party at tonight’s Teen Volunteer Council meeting.  Teen volunteers are powered by ice cream and sprinkles right?!

TVC meets tonight from 5:30-7:30 at the Fairmount Branch.

Okay, well, almost.  It’s tonight at the Eastern Avenue Branch from 6-7:30.  If you read 250+ minutes show up with a friend and get ready for some fun.  We’ll have four giant screens for videogaming, tons of crafts, free food and drinks, and lots of teens from around the area to hang with.  Plus, you can win prizes.

See you soon?  Yes, please.

The 16th Annual Teen Reading Challenge begins this Sunday!  Pick up your reading log today at any Davenport Public Library location.  The Teen Reading Challenge is an event sponsored by the Quad City Area Public Libraries.  This unique winter reading program asks teens to join their home library team and “compete” against other area public libraries to see who can read the most.  Come on DPL teens, show us what you’ve got this year!

The 2011 program runs from Sunday, January 9th through Saturday, January 29th.  The logs must be turned in by Tuesday, Feb. 1st.  To participate visit your local library and pick up a log.  Just keep track of the number of minutes you read (books, magazines, newspapers, and even books for school!) on the provided log and turn it in when you’re done.  It’s really that easy!

Oh, and there will also be a party for the teens who read 250 minutes or more.  Yep, if you read 250+ minutes you’ll receive an invitation to the Teen Reading Challenge Party at Davenport’s Eastern Ave. Library on Friday, Feb. 4th from 6-7:30pm.  And you get to bring a friend, as well!  There will be video games to play, scrapbooking activities, duct tape crafts, free food, drinks, and lots of prizes to give away.  Read, read, read, read!

You did it!!!  At last night’s Quad City Teen Reading Challenge Party, hosted by the Bettendorf Public Library, it was announced that Team Davenport won for the team with the ‘highest average of minutes read’…say what?!?  Way to go, DPL Teens!

You know…that means we’re going to have to throw that party we’ve been promising if you were to ever win the Challenge…cuz you won!  Awesomesauce.  Party details coming soon…

We’re very proud of all the teen participants and the time they spent reading for this year’s Challenge.  The teens from Moline won the big title for ‘highest total minutes read.’  And Rock Island Public Library won the ‘special accomplishment award’ for their extra efforts in promoting the 2010 Teen Reading Challenge.  Go Teams!

If you missed last night’s Teen Reading Challenge Party you missed a sugary good time, complete with sprinkles and video games on top.  Oh, and I forgot to mention the cool origami earrings you could make.  Oh, and the glow-in-the-dark ice creams spoons, too.  Oh, and the nachos with extra cheese.  Oh, and the Beatles Rock Band.  Oh, and the free goodies.  Yeah, free.  Oh, and the gift cards we handed out as prizes.  Oh, and the warm soda–that everyone drank anyways.  Oh, and the duct tape crafts.  Oh, and the face paints.  Oh, and the mini-megaphones.  Oh, and if you missed out on participating in the 15th Annual Teen Reading Challenge, well, there’s always next year…until then…keep reading.
