Thank you for your comment!

Our transcription of Mr. Hirschl's Scott County death record states that his mother's name was "WILLS"---whether this was an error on the part of the informant, the clerk, the transciber, or tall three, we may never know.

We'll check our other available records for confirmation and correct the post, if necessary!

There are several stories about which city was the "Quad" in the "Quad-Cities"---for every source that claims it was East moline, another states it was Bettendorf!

For the sake of this post, we're following the information in the Quad-Cities USA Campaign materials, but it would be interesting to do further research on the East Moline versus Bettendforf issue for a future post!

I grew up in the Quad-Cities. I was always told that the 4 cities were Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline (added in 1920). When Bettendorf was added (1970's) Quint-Cities was tried for a few years, but never "caught on". That is why some of the businesses have Quint Cities in their name.
I remember it well. We were buried for four days.
My daughter will always remember it too. After the storm she got her snow suit on to go play awhile in the snow.
She stuck her tongue to aluminum steps. If she was hurt bad there was no way to gt her to Dr. She had quite a burn on her tongue but was ok. Yes we remember. Not sure if it was the same yr but once when temps were very low n hi winds our LP gas froze. Luckily we had a fireplace.
Back then the winters were very harsh. Can remember wind chills of -80. And it stayed in a hard freeze all winter. Over the yrs it seems the climate has changed n is not that cold anymore.
Freeze levels were 6ft down. That's a solid freeze.
I miss those days.

I lived at Wittmyer for 2 years. It is haunted. I saw a few ghost myself. I was walking to my class with my teacher and another student and they pointed at the middle school building and said look do you see it. I couldn't see it at first but then I could it was a tall woman with long black hair and wherein what looked like goggles. I am not lying. I even asked a staff member why don't they get the ghost hunters there? She said they wanted to but the president said confidentiality of the other clients but it is really haunted...
