Thank you for the response Gem. We love to hear that we helped answer a childhood question. That area has such an amazing history (and so many secrets too). What a wonderful place to explore as a child! We have had many west Davenport patrons visit over the years to try to learn more about their houses. It certainly is a very intriguing area in many ways. Thanks for reading! - Amy D.

I grew up in this area and explored all the surrounding woods as a child. An old neighbor, who would be about 100 years old now, use to tell the tale of Indians fighting and of bloody hollow. As children playing in a creek, we found numerous arrowheads there. I also came upon some stone or cement steps, which probably led to an abandoned house in the middle of the woods where Cherokee Street now stands. Thanks for this article, because I could never find any information about this. And, yes, I think the house I grew up in was haunted. We often heard footsteps at night and other strange things happened.
