B-Movie Science

Fans of biology, physics, and cheesy sci-fi and horror movies, take a look at “The Biology of B-Movie Monsters,” an article by Dr. Michael C. LaBarbera, a professor in Organismal Biology & Anatomy at the University of Chicago. Dr. LaBarbera explains why the bones of the Fifty Foot Woman would collapse under her mass, why the Incredible Shrinking Man would have to eat his body weight daily to survive, and the Achilles heel of the giant ants in Them!

The professor also challenges the most commonly depicted posture of the Tyrannosaurus Rex and describes ET‘s secret weapon.

If you now feel the urge to revisit any of these cinematic gems, the Davenport Public Library can help you. We have an extensive DVD collection and our participation in the RiverShare Library System gives our patrons access to DVDs from 20 other libraries. Visit www.davenportlibrary.com to check availability or to put a movie on hold.
