Do you like live jazz music? Birthday cake? Both? The 18th annual Bix Birthday Bash will have all of that and more. Stop by the Eastern Avenue Branch Library on March 7th at 1 p.m. to hear the Bix All-Star Band. Stick around after the show, because we will also be serving birthday cake and ice cream in honor of what would have been Bix Beiderbecke’s 109th birthday.
Not everyone is in to the hearts and cupids of a traditional Valentine’s Day. Some bristle at the commercialism of the holiday while others are irritated by the saccharine sentimentality. Are you one of those people? If so, then I have some good news; The Davenport Public Library is holding two Anti-Valentine’s Day parties (one for adults and one for teens.) The adult Anti-Valentine’s Day party will be held on Monday, February 13th at 6:00 p.m. at the Eastern Avenue Branch Library. The teen party will be held on Tuesday, February 14th at 5:30 p.m at the Fairmount Branch Library. These light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek events will be filled with unusual activities, great music, and a lot of fun. Registration is required for these FREE parties. To register, call 563-326-7832 or visit any of the three Davenport Public Library locations.

Come all ye fans of edible homes! The Davenport Public Library is the place to view gingerbread houses of different shapes and sizes. We have castles with ice cream cone towers and cabins with pretzel roofs. See Starburst paths and Tootsie Roll trees.
The Quad City Arts Festival of Trees was kind enough to lend some of their gingerbread houses to be displayed at the Library. The Fairmount Branch is hosting about a dozen of these houses in their display cases. You can also see some at Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Pop in between now and January 7th to have a peek at these scrumptious abodes! Sorry, no nibbling allowed.
