KFC for Christmas dinner?
In Japan, KFC fried chicken is traditional Christmas dinner fare, with people lining up for blocks to order and pick up their chicken. This is mostly due to a 1970′s ad campaign suggesting that fried chicken is served at Christmas dinners in the United States.
However you celebrate, the Davenport Public Library would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season. For your convenience holiday hours are listed below.
Santa is coming to the Library again!
Have you been good this year? I bet you have, so come see Santa at the Main Library on Saturdays, December 1, 8, and 15! Santa will be at the Library from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Be sure to be in line no later than 2:15 p.m. Parents will have the opportunity to take their child’s photo with Santa; so don’t forget your camera! Everyone is invited to this FREE event.
For more holiday fun, check out these names for Santa from around the world. My favorite it the Chinese name for Santa, Dun Che Lao Ren, or “Christmas Old Man.”
Real estate to drool about
Come all ye fans of edible homes! The Davenport Public Library is the place to view gingerbread houses of different shapes and sizes. We have castles with ice cream cone towers and cabins with pretzel roofs. See Starburst paths and Tootsie Roll trees.
The Quad City Arts Festival of Trees was kind enough to lend some of their gingerbread houses to be displayed at the Library. The Fairmount Branch is hosting about a dozen of these houses in their display cases. You can also see some at Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Pop in between now and January 7th to have a peek at these scrumptious abodes! Sorry, no nibbling allowed.
