Titanic Fact #5: Bathtubs and Asparagus

Captain Edward Smith’s bathtub as it was found in the wreckage.
Division among the classes on the Titanic was severely noticeable. For example, there were over 700 people in third class, but only 2 bathtubs for all of them. However, the wealth in first class was so excessive that not only did most first class passengers have their own bathtubs, the ship also carried 400 asparagus tongs.
I’m sure there is a perfectly good reason for 400 of these and only 20 lifeboats; I just can’t think of it at the moment.
