COME IN OUT OF THE COLD AND ENJOY OBI & COMPUTER TUTOR!
The last I heard was another 1″-3″ of snow over the next couple of days. So come in out of the cold and snow for either some computer training or a free movie, popcorn, and lemonade this Wednesday evening, December 15 at the Eastern Avenue Branch library (6000 Eastern Avenue). These free activities give you a great chance to learn and enjoy our newest facility!
This month’s movie is For My Father. Tarek, a Palestinian forced on a suicide mission in Tel Aviv to redeem his father’s honor, is given a second chance when the fuse on his explosive vest fails to detonate. Forced to spend the weekend in Tel Aviv awaiting its repair, Tarek must live amongst the people he was planning to kill. To his surprise he connects with several Israelis on the outskirts of society, including the beautiful Keren, who has cut off contact with her Orthodox family and upbringing. With nothing to lose, Tarek and Keren open up to one another, and an unlikely love blooms between two isolated and damaged individuals raised to be enemies.
Or learn some microsoft office software or how to create an email account. Are you just beginning and you have heard the word mouse and think, “Why would I want a dirty little rodent with my computer?” Never fear, COMPUTER TUTOR is here! Bring any and all of your questions and we will do our best to answer them for you or at least point you in the right direction.
So take time out from the shoveling and stop by your Eastern Avenue library today!
BOOK SIGNING WITH LINDA SMITH KORTEMEYER
Just in time for the holiday season, Linda Smith Kortemeyer, local author, will be at the Davenport Public Library Eastern Avenue Branch (6000 Eastern Avenue) on Monday, December 13, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. to talk about her new book, Spilling the Beans Over Coffee. Copies will also be for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to the FRIENDS of the Davenport Public Library.
Kortemeyer’s book emphasizes reflection. Once a person retires there is more time to spend reflecting on the things accomplished in life. Writing personal stories down is more than just a review of experiences, but it is a picture of an emotional and spiritual soul. In searching though records, there comes a realization many facts are lost and details missing from family history. There are photos found in file folders without labels, dates, or names. Why did someone leave this puzzle to be found unless these are special pieces in the mystery of someone’s life? The author encourages people to “Pour a cup of coffee, sit down with this book, think about things in your own journey on life’s path that you would like to pass on to others, and listen to your heart.”
