CORNERSTONE CEREMONY TUESDAY, MARCH 2 AT 10:30 A.M.
Help us finish laying the foundation of Davenport Public Library’s Eastern Avenue Branch at our “Cornerstone Ceremony” happening on Tuesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the library construction site (6000 Eastern Avenue).
The cornerstone of this environmentally friendly library is also a time capsule, which will hold important documents, technology, and other artifacts of our era. Library staff have been compiling lists and voting on their favorite items to include in the capsule. Some of the items making the list are: aerial maps of the area, a flash drive with library photos and video; bestseller lists from 2009, a library card, floor plans, the library newsletter, and the official Eastern Avenue Branch Library fundraising t-shirt from the Staff Association.

JAZZ EXTRAORDINAIRE RAY BLUE HEADLINES A BUSY NIGHT AT FAIRMOUNT!
If your evening is free tonight Tuesday, February 23, be sure to stop out at the Fairmount Branch Library for some fantastic programs for all ages! Headlining tonights activities is jazz sensation, Ray Blue. Blue performs on world stages connecting people with his music. He’s played in festivals in South Africa, Zanzibar, Ireland, China, and France, just to name a few. He returns to Africa each year to perform, study, and conduct workshops. He is currently working on an American-African World Music production for a new release.
If music is not your cup of tea, then try one of our other events! If you’re a teen, don’t miss the Teen Tech Lab at 5:30. Join other teens as they learn how to edit videos for the upcoming Teen YouTube contest. The films that the teens produce will be shown on the largest screen in the Quad Cities, the giant IMAX screen. If you not a teen that’s ok, we have something for you as well. At 6:30, we have family story time featuring PAWD (Puppies Assisting With the Disabled). Take time to sit and read to these loving canines! These dogs will give new, shy, or inexperienced readers a friendly and non-judgmental audience that will surely increase the child’s confidence and growth in reading. If you aren’t in the mood to read or listen to music, take time out and enjoy knitting by the fireplace with the fireside knitters! This group has been meeting at the Library for nearly four years, and during that time, they have donated their knitted/crocheted items to various social organizations throughout the Quad Cities. They’ve helped put hats on babies, given mittens to school kids, and created blankets for seniors. It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced knitter or if this is your first attempt. Stop out and see what you can make!
Don’t miss any of these spactacular events!
