It’s hard to imagine a movie about World War II and the tragedy of the Holocaust as being humorous, but director/actor Roberto Benigni accomplishes this very feat with Life is Beautiful. Guido, a charming, yet bumbling waiter, wins the heart of the one he loves and builds a beautiful life for his wife and son. But then WWII escalates, and he has to save his son’s life and innocence. Run time, 116 minutes.
