Short & Sweets discusses A Christmas Memory!

christmas-memories-zoomOn December 14, the group will discuss, “A Christmas Memory,” by Truman Capote. The third time is a charm for Capote, as this story was released three times before it became a literary favorite. Based upon his own life, the narrator looks back fondly upon his Southern childhood. These nostalgic scenes evoke a gentle, simple, and secure childhood uncorrupted by the complications of adulthood. This story also contains darker elements such as loneliness, poverty, social isolation, and death, which demonstrate that the innocence of childhood may protect young people from the elements of the human condition, but not remove them from it. It’s a heartwarming story to read during the holidays, and we want to discuss it with you!

If you’re looking for a literary discussion group, but don’t feel like reading a whole book each month, then join Davenport Public Library’s “Short & Sweets” group. Short & Sweets discusses a new short story each month, while sampling delicious desserts. This group meets on the second Monday of every month, at 10:00 am, at the Fairmount Street Library (3000 N. Fairmount Street).Copies of the short story are prepared for each registered member, so all you need to do is sign up by calling 563-328-6833, or by clicking on the registration link below.
