The Davenport City Council voted unanimously Monday night that beginning immediately, all downtown parking meter spaces will be FREE! The central part of downtown from Scott to Iowa Street and River Drive to 5th Street will be for two hour parking and the rest of downtown outside of that area will be free for a 24 hour period. This is only a pilot program that will run for eight months until June when the council will look at data and see if this brought more people back downtown. For more information visit the QC Times.
So listen up, if you haven’t been down to the Main Library for a while because you didn’t want to pay the meters, now is the time to re-visit. Bring the kids down to Wednesday Crafter-noons or Saturday Story Times. Stop in at one of our partnership programs with the African American Museum of Iowa, see displays from the African American Museum or from the Putnam Museum, Santa will be here the first three Saturday’s in December. There is so much to see and do not only at the library, but your entire downtown! Take a walk along the river, visit some of the shops, eat lunch at one of the many eateries, check out the cool items at the visitors center, listen to some great music and learn at the RME, see some great tricks at the skate park, try out the new DOLA (Dog off leash area) with your family pet, visit the Figge, enjoy the Festival of Trees. That is only the tip of the iceburg of what is happening downtown. For more information on events in the Quad Cities visit Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau. For more information about the library and all of the amazing programs taking place, be sure to visit one of our blogs, our website, or stop on by and take a look for yourself.
Remember this is only until June when the council re-visits the parking situation. Enjoy the FREE parking while you can and let your alderman know how much you enjoy going downtown now that it is FREE!
