Thank you Quad Cities and the Quad City River Bandits for helping the Davenport Public Library win runner-up in the 2009 “Step Up to the Plate” program.
I received a phone call this morning from Megan McFarlane, Campaign Coordinator for the American Library Association, informing me that our library was runner-up in the number of participants during the 2009 program. Because of this, the library will receive a $50 gift certficate from ALA graphics. Megan also informed me that one of the 20 first place individual winners was from Davenport. That person won a commemorative hardbound copy of the Hall of Fame Yearbook, a Hall of Fame baseball, a commemorative set of 20 Hall of Fame baseball cards, a copy of a book from the “Sluggers Series,” by Loren Long and Phil Bildner, published by Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, a pair of youth batting gloves from Akadema Pro and an ALA Graphics “History Lives” poster featuring Jackie Robinson.
Other library winners included Maplewood Jr./Sr. High School library of Guy Mills, Pa. who won first place and the libraries that were runner-up included Davenport Public Library, Davenport, Iowa, Grove Family Library of Chambersburg, Pa., and Hockessin Library of Hokessin, Del.
Thank you again for all of your support and be sure to watch for more information in the spring, for the 2010 season of “Step Up to the Plate.”
