WHERE DID THE SUMMER GO?
It just seems like yesterday that Rick Eugene, Ellis Kell, DePriest Puppets and the Houks helped us kick-off our summer reading program with the help of a grant from the Quad City Arts. Their workshops inspired many to come to the library to begin a summer of learning fun through entertainment of the arts. Now that it is almost over, come help us celebrate this awesome summer of programs and reading at our Summer Reading Finale on Saturday, August 8 at 12:00 p.m at the Fairmount Branch Library.
This grand finale celebration features kid-friendly blues music and storytelling by blues musician, Kevin B.F. Burt of Iowa City. This year’s Summer Reading Program theme, “Be Creative @ Your Library,” has featured all kinds of arts and crafts, and has catered to all ages. We want to thank the community for supporting the Davenport Public Library with this free, top-notch concert.
Kevin BF Burt has toured across the Midwest for more than 15 years. He’s been seen on Iowa Public Television’s show, “Living in Iowa,” and has been known in circles as Iowa’s answer to blues musician, Robert Cray, and has been compared to Bill Withers and B.B. King. You won’t find a free concert in the Quad Cities of this caliber anywhere else but at your Library.
Remember, just because summer reading is over does not mean that programming has stopped; it just means that we don’t have prizes for reading! Many of our programs along with some new programs will continue through the fall. So keep your eyes open for all of your favorite library programs and news, from our website to our many blogs, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook pages.
