More than 400 people of all ages enjoyed the 22nd Annual Bix Porch Party – a record-breaking number on such a beautiful summer’s day! Don Estes and the Prairie Ramblers really knew how to excite the crowd, with their toe-tapping jazz renditions of favorites like “When the Saints Go Marching In” and “Sweet Georgia Brown.”
The Teen Volunteer Council worked the refreshment booth, earning more than $450 for teen materials and programming. Thank you to Hy-Vee at Rockingham Road and Showcase Cinema 53 for donating hot dogs and popcorn. The teens worked hard for their money and are thrilled with the community support.
Thank you to Don Estes and the band; and to all of the volunteers, library staff, and dedicated Bix fans who help make this party the best one on the block! If you want to learn more about Bix Beiderbecke, jazz music, or Davenport history, visit the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center at the Main Library, or online at www.qcmemory.org.
We’re already looking forward to the 23rd Annual celebration next July!
