As part of National Library Week, the library offered programs and events both at the library and in the community.  To kick-off National Library Week, the Davenport Public Library introduced her new mascot, Libby at the Fairmount Street Library.  With crafts, story time, cake and punch, Libby was introduced to her new home.  Welcome to the library Libby!  On that same day, the Friends of the Davenport Public Library put on an awesome fundraiser at the Davenport North High School auditorium, featuring such acts as blues sensation Ellis Kell, the Myers Brothers Band, Comedy Sports, local dance companies, and much more.  The event was emceed by the morning guys from 101.3 KUUL FM, Mark Manual and Steve Ketelaar.  Thank you participants for showing your support and volunteering your time for our community!

On Monday with the help or our friends over at Citibus, we offered library tours.  Citibus drove our wonderful group to each library so that they could see the ins and outs of how the library works.  On Tuesday we started our new partnership with the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.  They came to our Family Story Time with Baxter, a beautiful dog that is up for adoption.  This new story time which is offered the second Tuesday of every month (except during the summer) is called “Waggin’ Tales.”  On Wednesday, teen author sensation Chris Crutcher visited our library as part of Super Author Week.  What a delight it was to meet this sensational man.  Visit our podcast page in the coming weeks to hear what Mr. Crutcher had to say.

Then to finish off the week we had an event that combined two of the many great partnerships that the library has:  the American Heart Association and the Quad Cities River Bandits.  The event was the last of the “Go Healthy” Series and the start of “Step Up to the Plate.”  We had a Pony League baseball coach help with baseball skills along with two great mascots, Rascal from the Quad Cities River Bandits and our very own library mascot, Libby.

For more information on these programs, other programs offered during National Library Week, and all of the great FREE programs that the library has to offer, visit our website at  Remember, to check our podcasting blog in the coming weeks to hear and see some of these great events!
