Over the past few months, the African American Museum of Iowa and the Davenport Public Library have been offering unique programming for The Big Read initiative, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, which aims to restore reading to the center of American culture. This year, the featured book is Zora Neale Hurston’s, Their Eyes Were Watching God.
The final event of The Big Read will take place on Wednesday, March 25, at 6:00 pm, at the Fairmount Street Library and will feature Chaveevah Banks Ferguson, author/illustrator, who will talk about the relationships found in Their Eyes Were Watching God, comparing them to relationships of today. Everyone is invited to this informative, yet inspiring, discussion.
